This page compares the features and benefits to help you decide on your orthodontic treatment.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic procedure that uses clear, custom-made alignment trays to correct bite problems and straighten teeth. These aligners, which are made of a flexible plastic that is almost invisible when worn, are the most popular alternative to traditional braces.

  1. Consultation and Treatment Planning: Your treatment starts with a consultation, during which digital scans or impressions are taken of your teeth. They are then used to create a 3-D model which allows your dentist to create a custom treatment plan.
  2. Custom-Made Aligners: A series of aligners is created based on your treatment plan. Each set of aligners must be worn for approximately two weeks before the next one is used. Each aligner is unique and gradually moves your teeth closer to the desired position.
  3. Regular Check-Ups: During your treatment, you will receive regular check-ups to monitor your progress. Your dentist will adjust your treatment plan if necessary to achieve the best possible results.
  4. Retention: After your treatment, you will receive a retainer that helps maintain the new position of your teeth. Wear your retainer according to your dentist's instructions to avoid your teeth shifting back out of alignment or into a less desirable orientation.

Invisalign: Comprehensive and Customized Treatment

  • Customization: Invisalign is tailored to your specific orthodontic needs. Each set of aligners is custom-made and designed to move your teeth gradually into the desired position.
  • Effectiveness: Invisalign can treat a variety of orthodontic problems, such as crowded teeth, gaps between the teeth, overbites, and underbites.
  • Compliance: Since Invisalign aligners can be removed, it is important to maintain discipline and wear them at least 22 hours per day for best results. The success of your treatment depends on compliance.
  • Professional Supervision: The Invisalign treatment will be overseen by orthodontists with experience who can monitor and adjust your treatment plan if necessary

Invisalign: Benefits

  • Discreet: Invisalign aligners can be worn almost invisibly, which makes them an attractive alternative to braces.
  • Comfortable: The aligners have a smooth, plastic material that is gentle to your gums and cheeks. This reduces the risk of irritation.
  • Removable: Invisalign aligners can be removed, making it easy to eat, brush, and floss. It is easier to maintain good oral hygiene while undergoing treatment.
  • Effective: Invisalign is a great way to treat orthodontic problems such as crowded teeth, gaps in between teeth, and overbites or underbites.

Invisalign: Is It Right for You?

Invisalign offers a variety of treatment options that are suitable for a wide range of patients. It may not be appropriate for all patients, especially those with severe orthodontic problems. Ivanhoe Dental Group's dentists can determine whether Invisalign will work best for you, based on the goals and needs of your particular case.

What is Candid?

Candid is an alternative to braces and other clear aligner systems like Invisalign. Candid is a treatment option that's convenient, affordable, and effective.

Candid's Treatment Process

A woman is getting a clear brace on her teeth.
  • Initial Consultation

The Candid treatment begins with a consultation. This can take place in person, at a Candid Studio or at home using the Candid starter kit. A 3D scan of your teeth or an impression is taken during this consultation to create a personalized treatment plan.

  • Customized Aligners

A series of custom-made aligners is created based on your impression or 3D scan. These aligners are made of a BPA-free, clear plastic that is both comfortable and discreet.

  • Remote Monitoring

Candid offers remote tracking through an app. This allows you to communicate with orthodontists and track your progress, without having to make frequent visits in person. This feature is a great convenience for patients.

  • Regular Aligner Changes

Similar to other clear aligner systems, you wear each aligner set for a specific period, typically two weeks before moving on to the next. This gradual process will move your teeth to the desired position with as little discomfort as possible.

  • Retention

After you have completed your treatment using Candid aligners, your orthodontist will recommend wearing a retainer to maintain the new position of your teeth. Retainers should be worn according to your orthodontist's instructions.

Benefits of Candid

  • Convenience: Candid’s remote monitoring feature allows fewer in-person visits than traditional orthodontic treatments. This makes it an ideal option for busy people.
  • Affordability: Candid aligners are less expensive than other clear aligners
  • Professional Monitoring While Candid provides remote monitoring, licensed orthodontists oversee your treatment to ensure that it is progressing according to plan.
  • Effectiveness: Candid Aligners are designed for mild to moderate orthodontic problems, such as crowded teeth, gapped teeth, and minor bite issues.

Is Candid Right for You?

Candid is a good option for people with mild or moderate orthodontic problems who want a more convenient and affordable alternative to braces. It may not work for everyone, especially those with complex orthodontic issues. Ivanhoe Dental Group's dentist can determine whether Candid is right for you, based on the goals and needs of your particular case.

Invisalign or Candid, Which is right for you?

Invisalign or Candid? This is a decision you should make based on the orthodontic needs and goals of your particular lifestyle. Understanding the differences can help you to make an informed decision about your orthodontic treatment.

Make Your Decision

Consider the following when deciding between Invisalign or Candid:

  • Orthodontic Needs: Invisalign is a good option for people with complex orthodontic problems, while Candid could be the better choice for milder to moderate orthodontic issues.
  • Lifestyle Factors: If you are looking for a treatment that allows you to monitor your progress remotely and require fewer visits in person, Candid could be the best option for you. Invisalign is a good option if you value customization and professional supervision.
  • Budget: Candid aligners can be more affordable than Invisalign. This makes them an attractive option for patients on a budget.
